Independent Living San Diego

Searching for independent living in San Diego can be confusing. When it comes to seniors, “independent living” can mean several things.

When searching for just the right independent living facility in San Diego, here are some questions to

ask yourself or your loved one:

Do you want to have your meals provided?

Would you like to have access to transportation?

Are you interested in social activities?

Is it important that your independent living facility be licensed for care if

and when you need it?

Your answers to these questions will give you a head start. Then Elder Answers can point you in the right direction

when we speak or meet.

Independent Senior Living can be a Month to Month Rental Community

If you answered yes to the four questions above, you are looking for a full service senior community. Here you will lease your apartment or unit from month to month. And the rent you pay will include meals, housekeeping, activities and transportation.

Many seniors who live in these communities may also be receiving some assistance from the care staff. But many will not, as they are still able to care for themselves. And this is why these facilities are still referred to as independent living.

The advantage to these San Diego communities is, if and when a senior begins to need some help, they don’t have to move again. And yes, this building can also be referred to as an assisted living.

Independent Living in San Diego can be a Senior Apartment

Throughout the county of San Diego, there are hundreds of senior living communities for those 55 years of age

or older. And these apartments will be your most affordable independent

living option in the San Diego area.

However, in 55 plus apartments there are no (or very few) amenities provided, and no care. In a senior apartment residents still do their own shopping, meal preparation, and housekeeping.

And a senior here will most likely still be driving, as transportation is rarely provided.

These are truly the most “independent” senior living facilities

in San Diego if that is something

you are looking.

Continuing Care Retirement Community

A Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC) or Life Care Community is another category of independent living in San Diego.

There are several CCRCs in San Diego County, most requiring an upfront financial investment.

A CCRC provides different levels of living and care in different areas of their campus. Most of the community is attached or detached units where independent seniors can take advantage of meals and lots of activities and amenities, but where there is no care staff.

Continuing Care Communities may also have assisted living and skilled nursing on the same campus.

A CCRC is a good choice for those who still independent, have the finances to afford to move there, and who are planning for the future.
